DEARBORN (WWJ) - Dearborn police believe they have caught the crooks responsible for a series of car break-in across the city.

Officials investigating the thefts got a break on Wednesday, when they received a call around 5:40 a.m. about two suspicious males hiding near vehicles in the area of Donald and Horger, in a neighborhood near Ford and Schaefer roads.

Officers arrived in the area and found several vehicles had been illegally entered. While investigating the scene, officers apprehended 17-year-old Ali Hadrian-Zaiou. Police say the teen, a resident of the city of Dearborn, was in possession of numerous items that had been stolen from several vehicles in the area.

According to police, Hadrian-Zaiour entered any unlocked vehicle he could find, taking anything of value. He was taken into custody at the scene on larceny charges.

Investigators also identified a second individual who was allegedly working with Hadrian-Zaiour. Although that man's role in the car thefts is still under investigation, he was arrested on an outstanding felony warrant. His name was not released.

Police believe the duo is responsible for several similar break-ins that have occurred recently.

"This arrest is the result of a vigilant citizen who alerted officers to a crime in progress," Police Chief Ron Haddad said in a statement. "This quick action, coupled with the great work by our patrol officers and detectives resulted in the arrest of two individuals who are likely responsible for dozens of crimes in our community."

Hadrian-Zaiour was arraigned in 19th District Court and is due back in court on Dec. 12 for a pre-trial where he will be formally charged.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with any information is urged to contact police at 313-943-3012.
