Tigers Acquire Cameron Maybin In Exchange For Ian Krol
DETROIT (CBS Detroit/AP) -- The Detroit Tigers announced Friday that the club has acquired outfielder Cameron Maybin from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for left-handed pitchers Ian Krol and Gabe Speier.
"Cameron Maybin is a good outfielder with plenty of experience in center field," said Al Avila, Tigers Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager. "He is coming off of a solid offensive season in 2015 and brings speed and athleticism to our club. Brad Ausmus and the coaching staff will determine Cameron's role during Spring Training."
Maybin, 28, hit .267 (135x505) with 65 runs scored, 18 doubles, two triples, 10 home runs and 59 RBI in 141 games for the Braves in 2015. Maybin also added 23 stolen bases, which ranked 10th in the National League. Defensively, Maybin had a .991 fielding percentage, committing just three errors in 341 total chances.
In nine seasons at the major league level, the Asheville, N.C., native has a .251 (596x2378) career batting average with 338 runs scored, 100 doubles, 24 triples, 42 home runs and 209 RBI in 702 games with four organizations, including the Tigers, Florida Marlins, San Diego Padres and Braves.
The Tigers took Maybin in the first round in 2005, and he made his major league debut for Detroit in 2007 before being traded to the Marlins as a key prospect in the deal that brought Miguel Cabrera to the Tigers.
Krol, 24, split time in 2015 between Detroit and Triple-A Toledo. In 33 games with the Tigers, Krol had a 2-3 record with a 5.79 ERA (28.0IP/18ER) and 26 strikeouts, while he had a 1-1 record with a 2.30 ERA (31.1IP/8ER) and 34 strikeouts in 28 appearances with Toledo.
Speier, 20, pitched in 33 games with Single-A West Michigan in 2015 and had a 4-2 record with a 2.86 ERA (44.0IP/14ER) and 36 strikeouts.
