Michigan Businessman Gets 2 Years In Prison For $1 Million Fraud, Pot Growing Operation

FLINT (WWJ/AP) - A Michigan businessman accused in a $1 million bank fraud scheme and an illegal, large-scale marijuana growing operation has been sentenced to two years in prison.

Federal prosecutors say Harry Brink's growing operation was a money-making venture that had its own employees, and not the medical marijuana facility he tried to depict. In court documents, they say he made up to $20,000 per month.

The U.S. attorney's office says Brink learned his punishment Wednesday. He's also ordered to pay a $50,000 fine and $788,000 in restitution.

Brink, the owner of US Speedo, pleaded guilty in March to conspiracy to commit bank fraud and conspiracy to manufacture and distribute marijuana, the Flint Journal reported. He also admitted in January 2013 to conspiring to grow marijuana in a building near the company's facility in Mundy Township.
