Former Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon is returning to the Tigers' organization.

McClendon, who was on Jim Leyland's staff from 2006-13, now joins the Toledo Mud Hens – the Tigers' Triple-A affiliate – as their manager, the team announced Monday.

McClendon went 163-161 in the two seasons he spent in Seattle before being fired in October. The Mariners missed the playoffs by one game in 2014, then again this year after going 76-86.

Before Seattle, McClendon also had major league managing experience with the Pirates, where he went 336-446.

McClendon also played for the Reds, Cubs and Pirates from 1987-94.

Larry Parrish retired as Mud Hens coach in September after spending 10 seasons with the team.

"It's an honor to come back to the Detroit Tigers organization," McClendon said in a statement after being introduced at Toledo's Fifth Third Field. "I've been to Fifth Third Field many times in the past. It's a wonderful ballpark and the fans are outstanding. It should be a very enjoyable summer."
