Nearly 10 Pounds Of Cocaine Found In Car After Traffic Stop On I-75

WOODHAVEN, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - A routine traffic stop on I-75, south of Detroit, led to the discovery of nearly 10 pounds of cocaine.

State police Lt. Mike Shaw said troopers with the MSP Hometown Security Team stopped a car that was following too close to a semi-truck Tuesday in Woodhaven.

"When the trooper made contact with the driver and the passengers in the vehicle, they gave some comflicting stories about what they were doing, where they were heading," Shaw told WWJ Newsradio 950's Zahra Huber.

The trooper found that they driver had a suspended license and a warrant for his arrest.

The car was searched and cocaine was found in the trunk.

Shaw said the drugs had a street value of about $120,000, adding that  it's the "first time in a while" that such a large amount of cocaine has been discovered by troopers.

Three men were arrested and remain jailed pending formal charges. Their names were not immediately released.
