Tigers Announce Minor League Assignments For 2016
DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers today announced the minor league field staff and roving personnel assignments for the 2016 season.
Dave Owen (Director, Player Development), Bill Dancy (Minor League Field Coordinator), Manny Crespo (Director, Latin American Player Development), Scott Fletcher (Infield Coordinator), Joe DePastino (Catching Coordinator), Bruce Fields (Hitting Coordinator), A.J. Sager (Pitching Coordinator), Gene Roof (Outfield and Baserunning Coordinator), Brian Peterson (Performance Enhancement Instructor), Dr. George Carlo (Performance Coach), Sharon Lockwood (Coordinator of International Player Programs), Corey Tremble (Medical Coordinator), Steve Melendez (Minor League International Medical Coordinator) and Steve Chase (Strength and Conditioning Coordinator) will all return in their respective positions for the 2016 season.
Lloyd McClendon, Jeff Pico, Willie Blair, Ace Adams and Mike Hessman have each joined the Tigers organization. McClendon will be the manager at Triple A Toledo, Pico will be the pitching coach for Triple A Toledo, Blair will be the pitching coach for Double A Erie, Adams will be the pitching coach for Connecticut and Hessman will be the hitting coach for Connecticut.
Additionally, Phil Clark, who previously was the hitting coach for Single A West Michigan, will now be the hitting coach at Double A Erie. Edgar Alfonzo, who was the hitting coach for the GCL Tigers and Double A Erie, will be the hitting coach for Single A West Michigan. Nick Avila, who also serves as an area scout for the Tigers, will be the pitching coach for the GCL Tigers. German Geigel and Josman Robles will each serve as hitting coaches for the GCL Tigers. , Robles was previously the hitting coach for the VSL Tigers, while Geigel is a Tigers scout in Puerto Rico and also assisted as the hitting coach for the GCL Tigers at the end of 2015. Jaime Garcia, who was the pitching coach for the GCL Tigers in 2015, will serve as the extended spring training/rehab pitching coach.
