Stage Show Planned About Assisted-Suicide Advocate 'Dr. Death' Kevorkian

DETROIT (AP/WWJ) - A producer says a stage show is in the works about assisted-suicide advocate Dr. Jack Kevorkian.

Steve Jones, CEO of Bee Holder Productions, tells The Detroit News the tentatively titled "Dr. Death: Jack of All Trades" will look at Kevorkian's art, music and writings. Jones was a producer for "You Don't Know Jack," a 2010 HBO movie about Kevorkian.

Kevorkian sparked the national right-to-die debate with a homemade suicide machine that helped end the lives of about 130 ailing people.  He served eight years in prison for his mercy killings before he died in metro Detroit in 2011 at age 83.

Kevorkian last made headlines in August when his 1968 VW Minibus, once dubbed the "Deathmobile", was sold to reality TV paranormal investigator Zak Bagans. Seth Gold of American Jewelry & Loan made a $15,000 profit on the vehicle that had been sitting for years in the back room of the well-known Southfield pawn shop while visitors posed with it for pictures.

Meanwhile, Jones says a TV miniseries is planned about the late automotive innovator John Z. DeLorean that's to be partially filmed in Detroit.

Jones told the News he hopes both projects will be finished by late 2016 or early 2017.
