Union Reaches Tentative Pact At Nexteer Plant After Walkout

BUENA VISTA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - The local representing United Auto Workers members who walked off the job from a Nexteer Automotive manufacturing complex in Michigan says it's reached a tentative agreement with the company.

UAW Local 699 said in a statement Tuesday night the deal will be voted on by the full membership and no further details will be released until workers review it.

WWJ's Jeff Gilbert says there are no guarantees that members will accept this deal.

Workers gathered in the morning outside the complex in Saginaw County's Buena Vista Township to announce a strike.

The automotive steering company has roughly 3,000 union employees at the complex. Local 699 said 97 percent of those voting opposed the previous pact with company, which is owned by China-based Pacific Century Motors.

Nexteer says the rejection of the earlier deal was disappointing and it was evaluating "strategic options" for the facility.
