Teen Charged In Juvenile Court For Crash That Killed Boy

MUSKEGON, Mich. (AP) - A 14-year-old driver who crashed an SUV, killing a 10-year-old passenger in western Michigan, faces charges in juvenile court.

The charges include reckless driving causing death and unlawful use of a vehicle. The Muskegon Chronicle reports that a court hearing will be held Dec. 22.

Investigators say Jeffrey Jennings died when the teenager apparently lost control of the vehicle on a dirt road in Muskegon County's Ravenna Township on Dec. 3. At the time, Sheriff Dean Roesler said the SUV was "almost destroyed beyond recognition."

In juvenile court, judges have flexibility in devising a sentence if a minor is convicted. The victim's family has been very critical of the teen, who was injured in the crash.

The Associated Press typically doesn't identify minors accused of crimes.
