Warren Mayor Stuck In Park In Battle Over Used Car Lots

WARREN (WWJ/AP) - Let the haggling begin.

The Warren City Council has overridden a veto by Mayor James Fouts, who fears the Detroit suburb is turning into "used car lot city."

The override last week means a used car lot can now expand on 8 Mile Road just west of Mound Road. It also clears the way for buildings to be demomlished on Mound Road just north of 8 Mile, for a new used car lot.

On Dec. 1, Fouts vetoed a permit approved by the council. He said it was sending the "wrong message that anything goes in Warren's older neighborhoods, including junk car lots."

Warren has 55 used car lots, more than double the number next door in Sterling Heights.
