Detroit-Area School District Links Worker Pay To Enrollment

ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ/AP) - A school district in the Detroit area has decided to base pay for non-teaching employees on student enrollment.

The Board of Education for Lakeview Public Schools unanimously approved a contract with nine administrators this week that ties wages to revenue for the district in St. Clair Shores, according to a report in the Macomb Daily. Several other employee groups, including principals, paraprofessionals and secretaries, will be paid under the same system.

Under a sliding scale created by the administration, employees will receive a 1-percent pay cut if revenue declines by $550,000 or a 1-percent pay raise if revenue is increased by $750,000.

Lakeview Public Schools Superintendent Karl Paulson says the wages reward district employees if the revenue is available.

The pay adjustments will go into effect Jan. 1.
