Massive Food Giveaway For Holidays Planned In Detroit

DETROIT (AP) - A massive food giveaway for the holidays is taking place in Detroit this weekend.

UAW-Ford is donating more than 25,000 holiday meals during its third annual "Boxes of Love" effort, which is part a national community giving initiative.

On Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. and until the last box is gone, organizers say Detroit-area residents may pick up boxes at the Butzel Park Family Recreation Center in Detroit, Fellowship Chapel in Detroit and the Highland Park Fire Station in Highland Park.

Each box includes a 12- to 14-pound turkey, stuffing, macaroni and cheese, cranberry sauce, corn bread mix, a jumbo size can of vegetables, cake mix and frosting.

The joint effort from the United Auto Workers union and Dearborn-based Ford Motor Co. brought in more than $500,000 of community giving.
