Snow Starts Flying In Metro Detroit As 80 Car Pile Up Reported In Grand Rapids

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) After weeks of unseasonably warm weather, Old Man Winter got some revenge on metro Detroit and parts west with a flurry of white stuff that made roads slippery for the Friday afternoon commute.

Moving from the west to the east, a series of snow squalls were reported beginning at about 3:45 p.m. "There's a couple of bursts going on that make it look worse than it actually is," reported CBS 62 Chief Meteorologist Jim Madaus.

The bursts will continue until 7 or 8 p.m., he added, but no real snow accumulation is expected. That means metro Detroit is getting off easy.

In Grand Rapids, on the other hand, sudden bursts of snow led to whiteout conditions and a bevy of car crashes.

More will come on this developing story.
