Oakland County Man Reunited With Class Ring Lost 25 Years Ago

BERKLEY (WWJ) - An Oakland County man got an unexpected gift just in time for Christmas when he was reunited with a ring he lost more than two decades ago.

"It fits on my pinky now," said Lon Kuehn of Berkley. "My hand's gotten bigger, but the memories just come flooding back just holding it."

It was back in 1990, Kuehn said, when his Oakland University class ring disappeared while he was playing golf at the Clarkston Golf Club.

"At the beginning of the round I had the ring on my hand; by the end of the round the ring was gone," Kuehn told WWJ's Zahra Huber. "I felt horrible about it, because I spent a lot of money on the ring."

For several years, he kept checking back with the clubhouse to see if they found the ring with no luck. "And I just figured it was just lost to history when the golf club went out of business," Kuehn said.

Recently, Kuehn received a letter from university staffers who were trying to track down the ring's owner.

Apparently, the ex-husband of a woman named Donna Dietrich found Kuehn's ring on the golf course years and years ago. When he couldn't find the owner, he put it in a drawer.

Dietrich came across the ring a few weeks ago and turned it in,  hoping it would make its way to its rightful owner...and it did.

"Never in a million years did I ever think I'd ever find this again, or be able to see it again," Kuehn said.
