2 Injured When Scaffolding Collapses At Dearborn Hotel Construction Site

DEARBORN (WWJ) - Two people were hurt when some scaffolding collapsed at a Dearborn construction site.

It happened just before 10 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Michigan Ave. and Telegraph Rd. where work on a new four-story Holiday Inn and Staybridge Suites hotel is nearly complete.

Dearborn Fire Department officials say the men had serious injuries, but were stable when they were taken to Beaumont Hospital's trauma center

One witness said at least one of the injured men was conscious when EMS arrived.

"One of the workers had fell, and that's what brought the...you know, when the people and all that stuff come. I walked down there and I seen it looked like he was alert," she said.

Work at the site has been temporarily suspended.

"The scaffolding in question was underneath the front entrance of the building — maybe ten or 15 feet of the ground," reported WWJ Newsradio 950's Ron Dewey from the scene. "You now see plywood and piping from the scaffolding that's now scattered after it had collapsed."

Building inspectors are working with fire investigators to determine what caused the collapse.
