'Creed' The Dog Continues To Improve After Being Found In Desperate Shape

DETROIT (WWJ) - A dog found near 7 Mile Road and Telegraph is fighting for his life.

Michelle Heyza of A ReJoyceful Animal Rescue said her group came across the pup, now named Creed, after a good Samaritan found him in her yard with a mangled paw.

Heyza said Creed's condition was bleak and he needed several blood transfusions once he was brought to the Oakland Veterinary Referral Services.

"When they got there and seen how severe his situation was - they didn't say hi, they didn't say nothing - they scooped him up and put him in his car and drove 90 down Telegraph and got him to the vet," she said.

"The vet basically told us, in layman's terms, that this is going to cost us the price of a small vehicle," said Heyza.

The non-profit animal haven has set up a fundraising page to help off-set the costs of Creed's medical expenses.

"He's wagging his tail, he's looking at people - he's getting excited to see people - he's eating like a champion, he's standing up and going outside to go potty now, so he's doing really good," said Heyza.

Creed's leg will have to be amputated up to his hip and his medical bills are expected to be up to $10,000 -- so far they've raised a little over $6000.
