Police: Woman Killed Trying To Cross 12 Mile Road Might Have Been Under The Influence

ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - Police say a 48-year-old woman is dead after she was struck by a vehicle while attempting to walk across 12 Mile Road in Macomb County.

The accident happened Tuesday evening on 12 Mile Road just east of Massachusetts Street in Roseville.

According to police, Christine Marie Oleson had walked across three of the four lanes of 12 Mile and was standing on the lane divider between the two eastbound lanes when she was struck. The driver of the vehicle, a 61-year-old Roseville man, immediately stopped at the scene and called 911.

The driver told police that he never saw Oleson in the roadway. At the time of the incident, police say Oleson was dressed in dark clothing, which made her extremely difficult to see.

Investigators do not believe the driver was under influence of alcohol or drugs. However, police say Oleson may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident, and may have stepped into the path of the approaching vehicle.

An investigation is ongoing.

Police are asking anyone who might have witnessed the incident to contact investigators at 586-447-4483.
