As parents, children are our number one concern. However, it should not take a teacher sickout for all adults to be responsible for prioritizing kids. With all the educational issues facing our state today, moms, dads, and caregivers remain the most important voice in their child's education.

Teachers continue to be leaders in the classroom, experts on the curriculum, and knowledgeable about learning strategies, yet they need more resources and funding going into the classroom to be able to provide our kids with a quality education.

Therefore this is not a situation of Parents Vs. Teachers, but a chance to see how parents and teachers can continue to build their relationship for the success of all students.

I know that my daughter is not a morning person; she's going to perform better academically after eleven a.m. and I know this because I am her mother. Maybe your child is a creative thinker and needs to be able to draw or paint to problem solve. Maybe your son is extremely intelligent and was diagnosed with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), so he needs to listen to a beat or move around while learning.

You know your kid best. However-- your child's educator knows the requirements and improvements your son / daughter needs to graduate, what is expected of them to read at or above grade level, and which subjects they are most interested in during classroom time.

We must be intentional about combining our expertise as adults to ensure our children receive full support and are able to grow and continue on toward higher education, a career, and personal success.

What are you doing to build a relationship with your child's educator? After all, they do spend most of their time with their teacher.
