Red Wings Recall Andersson And Return Tangradi And Jensen To Griffins
DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today recalled center Joakim Andersson from the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffins and assigned left wing Eric Tangradi and defenseman Nick Jensen to the Griffins.
Andersson has played 202 regular-season games for the Red Wings since 2011-12, recording 36 points (15-21-36) and 48 penalty minutes and adding seven points (2-5-7) in 22 career Stanley Cup Playoff games. He has picked up three points (1-2-3) in 26 games for the Red Wings this season. A veteran of 189 AHL games since the 2008-09 season, Andersson has tallied 101 points (38-63-101) in 189 career games with the Griffins and helped the franchise to its first-ever Calder Cup championship in 2012-13 with 27 points (10-17-27) in 36 regular-season games and eight points (3-5-8) in 10 postseason contests.
The 26-year-old forward was originally drafted by the Red Wings in the third round (88th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He spent three seasons playing professionally in his home country before coming to North America, earning 31 points (13-18-31) in 114 games with Frolunda in the Swedish Hockey League from 2007-10 and adding 27 points (8-19-27) in 37 games for Boras HC in Sweden's second-tier professional league. The Munkedal, Sweden, native also helped Frolunda's junior club to championships in 2007 and 2008 and twice earned a silver medal at the IIHF World Junior Championship in 2008 and 2009, totaling 12 points (2-10-12) in 12 games during international play.
Tangradi made his Red Wings debut in Monday's 4-2 win against the New York Islanders, recording one hit in 6:55 time on ice. The 26-year-old winger leads the Griffins with 31 points (16-15-31) in 36 games and is tied for fifth in the AHL with 16 goals. The 6-foot-4, 233-lb., winger also places among Grand Rapids' leaders with 15 assists (T3rd), a plus-11 rating (2nd), four power-play goals (T1st) and 86 shots on goal (2nd). In 262 career AHL games between the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Hamilton Bulldogs and Griffins, he has tallied 183 points (90-93-183), a plus-21 rating and 308 penalty minutes, in addition to 12 points (5-7-12) in 14 career postseason games. Tangradi has also logged 144 NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Winnipeg Jets, Montreal Canadiens and Red Wings since 2009-10, notching 15 points (5-10-15) and 86 penalty minutes.
Originally drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the second round (42nd overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Tangradi spent his major junior career with the Ontario Hockey League's Belleville Bulls, notching 168 points (67-101-168) in 176 regular-season games and adding 56 points (23-33-56) in 52 playoff games. The Philadelphia native also represented the United States during the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ottawa, Ontario, picking up three points (1-2-3) in six games.
Jensen, 25, was recalled by Detroit on Sunday but did not see game action with the Red Wings. Originally selected by the Red Wings in the fifth round (150th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Jensen has spent the past three seasons with the Griffins, totaling 44 points (8-36-44), a plus-43 rating and 38 penalty minutes in 159 games. In 2014-15, he ranked second among the team's defensemen with 27 points (6-21-27) in 75 regular-season games and tied for first overall in the AHL with a plus-30 rating. This season, Jensen has tallied eight points (2-6-8) in 39 games, including his first professional overtime winner on Jan. 15 versus Lake Erie.
Prior to his professional career, Jensen spent three seasons at St. Cloud State University from 2010-13. In 118 collegiate games with the Huskies, the 6-foot, 195-lb., blueliner registered 86 points (15-71-86), a +28 rating and 36 penalty minutes. He was a two-time Western Collegiate Hockey Association All-Academic Team member, and he was the WCHA Defensive Player of the Year and a WCHA First-Team All-Star in 2012-13, his final collegiate season. The Rogers, Minn., native also logged 105 games in the United States Hockey League with the Green Bay Gamblers from 2008-10, picking up 49 points (11-38-49), a plus-70 rating and 62 penalty minutes. Jensen was a USHL All-Star in 2009-10 and helped his team to a Clark Cup championship.
