Teen Who Stabbed Mom 14 Times Sentenced As Juvenile

MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ/AP) - A 16-year-old Macomb County girl who stabbed her mother more than a dozen times in 2014 has been sentenced as a juvenile to a term that could last until she is 21.

The girl is expected at some point to be released to a residential facility and possibly later to her grandparents, according to The Macomb Daily. She was originally charged as an adult with attempted murder, but last month pleaded guilty to a reduced assault charge.

Macomb County Circuit Court Judge James Maceroni this week agreed to defense attorney Randy Rodnick's request for youth detention after learning that the girl initially acted in self-defense and showed no violence in the past.

The girl stabbed her mother about 14 times Aug. 31, 2014, in their Warren home.
