Cookies For Military: Local Girl Scouts Aim To Send 4,500 Boxes To Troops

CLINTON TWP. (WWJ) - What better way to thank our military troops than with Girl Scout Cookies?

Two local girl scouts, 12-year-old Olivia and 10-year-old Jane Golembiewski, are hoping to send more than 4,000 boxes of cookies to troops overseas.

"This is our third year doing it and me and my sister have a big goal: 4,500 cookies. So we need to raise $18,000, which we need a lot of help to get," said Olivia.

So, how does it work? Instead of buying a box of cookies for yourselves, the sisters are asking citizens to buy a box for the troops. The girls will be at Nino Salvaggio in Troy and Clinton Township this weekend. Boxes are $4 each.

"We're going to have a little table for kids to write letters to the troops," said Jade. "We're also going to be collecting clothing and gently used items to donate to the Disabled American Veterans."

If you can't make the cookie drive, you can still donate Girl Scout Cookies to troops through the Golembiewskis. You can mail a check payable to GSSEM Troop 30318 to P.O. Box No. 254, 51194 Romeo Plank Road, Macomb, MI 48042. For more information, email the girls' mother, Brenda, at BFGFamily@sbcglobal.net.
