Teen In Custody After Allegedly Firing Gun At Detroit Police Officer
DETROIT (WWJ) - A teenager accused of shooting at a Detroit Police officer is now in custody. He was found Tuesday afternoon hiding in an abandoned house in the area of Canfield and St. Jean on the city's east side.
Police Chief James Craig, on the scene of the incident, says the suspect pulled a gun after he and another teen were approached by two officers.
"This was a violent attack on a police officer, a shot was fired at a police officer, fortunately our officer was not harmed by the encounter -- fearing for his life he fired several rounds," said Craig.
Two teens were approached by police:
"They were walking in the street," said Craig of the teens, "officers casually approached, and it was at that time that the suspect took off and started running."
No one was hurt. The gun, a 9-millimeter, was recovered. A nearby school was placed on lock down for about three hours while DPD and Michigan State Police conducted a search.
