No Charges Expected In Death Of Michigan Toddler Struck By SUV
BRASELTON, Ga. (AP/WWJ) - Authorities in north Georgia say no charges are expected in the death of a Michigan toddler who was fatally struck by an SUV.
Braselton, Georgia Assistant Police Chief Lou Solis told The Times of Gainesville 19-month-old David Sirb was hit by a man who had stopped to speak with the child's father Sunday afternoon.
Solis said the man asked if any children were nearby before he began backing up. Solis said the boy's father checked behind the vehicle and said it was all clear — but that's when David wandered behind the Ford Expedition and was struck.
The boy, who was in town with his family visiting relatives, was taken to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Following an investigation by an accident reconstruction team, Solis said the boy's death appears to have been accidental and no charges are expected to be filed.
By Monday, a GoFundMe account had raised more than $19,000 for the Sirb family to assist with burial expenses.
"They have NO money, NO CLOTHES for their children for the funeral, they have NOTHING...," reads a message posted to the crowd-funding website. "PLEASE, ANYTHING you can give would be more than we currently have. Thank you for your prayers and gifts. God Bless."
