Selling Cars Without Titles, Incomplete Records Among Violations At 3 Metro Detroit Auto Dealerships

DETROIT (WWJ) - Three Michigan auto dealerships have had their licenses suspended after being accused of breaking the rules.

The Secretary of State's Office of Investigative Services has punished John Yurkovich Auto Sales in Wyandotte, M&M Cars on Eight Mile in Detroit, and First Place Auto Sales in Waterford for violations including not having complete records, and selling vehicles without proper documentation.

Fred Woodhams is the spokesman for Secretary of State Ruth Johnson ... he says all of the dealers failed to properly record vehicle transactions.

"In some cases the dealers were not providing title records for the car buyer, and that is a problem for people because then they have difficulty proving they own the vehicle and then they are not able to apply for title and registration for the vehicle," said Woodhams.

The details were gathered by a relatively new state task force, focused on protecting consumers...

"So when a complaint against a dealer, or a mechanic, a repair shop is received it is thoroughly investigated " said Woodhams.

The suspended dealers can request an administrative hearing to get their licenses back - all but one of the suspended dealers phones were disconnected.

The Secretary of State's office says if you have a complaint against First Place Auto Sales, John Yurkovich Auto Sales or M&M Cars Inc. you should call the Office of Investigative Services automotive complaint line at (517) 335-1410.
