Lions Announce 2016 Preseason Opponents
Allen Park, Mich.—The Detroit Lions announced today the team's 2016 NFL Preseason opponents, which includes home games against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2 and the Buffalo Bills in Week 4 at Ford Field. The Lions will travel to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers in the preseason opener and Baltimore to take on the Ravens in Week 3.
Additional dates and times for Lions preseason games will be announced at a later time.
2016 PRESEASON OPPONENTS
Preseason Week 1 at Pittsburgh (August 11-15)
In the 2016 preseason opener, the Lions travel to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers in the teams' first exhibition clash since 2010. The 2010 meeting also marks the last time Detroit opened the preseason on the road. Detroit leads Pittsburgh 10-8-0 in the all-time preseason series.
Preseason Week 2 vs. Cincinnati (August 18-22)
In Preseason Week 2, Detroit welcomes the Cincinnati Bengals to Ford Field. Detroit and Cincinnati have met 36 times in the preseason, with both teams sharing an 18-18-0 record. The Lions and Bengals last played in the preseason in 2011, with Detroit winning 34-3.
Preseason Week 3 at Baltimore (August 25-28)
The Lions conclude the road portion of their 2016 preseason schedule with a road contest against the Baltimore Ravens. This marks the Lions' second preseason trip to Baltimore (2012) over the last five seasons, with Baltimore winning the previous matchup 27-12 at M&T Bank Stadium. Baltimore holds the preseason series edge, 2-1-0.
Preseason Week 4 vs. Buffalo (September 1)
Detroit closes out the 2016 NFL Preseason with a home tilt against the Buffalo Bills. This year marks the 36th meeting between the Lions and Bills in the preseason, and the two teams have squared off in the preseason finale each year since 2002. Detroit leads the preseason series 23-11-1, including wins the past eight years and a 17-10 win in 2015.
