'Gown Town' Outfitting Teens With FREE Prom Dresses At Oakland Mall On April 10

TROY (WWJ) - Prom season is all about dressing up and making precious memories, but for local teens who may not be able to afford a beautiful dress, it can be a stressful time.

Dresses can cost hundreds of dollars and then additional costs, such as tickets to the dance and transportation, can cause a large financial burden for some girls and their families. But now, girls have nothing to worry about because 98.7 AMP Radio is hosting its very successful "Gown Town," ensuring that all teens get to be the belle of the ball.

On Sunday, April 10, lightly used formal and cocktail dresses will be distributed for FREE at Oakland Mall to girls who may not be able to afford a dress for prom. Girls may shop for an absolutely free dress of their dreams from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. -- and yes, girls get to keep the dress. The Gown Town store is located on the second level of Oakland Mall next to JCPenny.

Teachers, principals, school sports coaches and other adults who mentor teens are all encouraged to tell girls who might be in need of a prom dress about the program. Around 400 local teens picked out their perfect outfit last year.

Oakland Mall is located at 412 West 14 Mile Road in Troy.
