It's a fact of life: We have all locked ourselves out of our own homes at one time or another.

In this case it happened to Detroit Red Wings forward Tomas Tatar, and he apparently hadn't left a copy with friends or family so he had to find another source to help him get into his locked house this weekend.

So this happened:

"Tomas Tatar of the Red Wings locked himself out of his house today.....fortunately he lives nearby, and it took the combined efforts of the entire Station One crew to get him back in!" Royal Oak Police said in a Facebook post.

Good use of taxpayer funds?

Tatar rewarded the firefighters with a signed jersey for the station.

The townhouses pictured are downtown, basically across the street from a Royal Oak fire station, so we can imagine the firefighters were able to stroll over.
