Downriver Swim Coach Fired Amid Allegations Of Sexting With Student

ALLEN PARK (WWJ) - A Downriver swim coach has been fired and is now facing criminal charges after he was allegedly caught sexting with a student athlete.

The Allen Park school board on Monday terminated 26-year-old Tyler Card from his position as swim coach for both the district's high school and middle school. He was fired for allegedly sending explicit sexual text messages to a female student, a sophomore and member of the girl's swim team.

According to police, Card turned himself in to the Allen Park Police Department on April 14. He was subsequently arraigned in 24th District Court on charges of accosting children for immoral purposes and using a computer to commit a crime. Bond was set at $50,000.

According to the police report, the incident leading to Card losing his job happened last month. Card allegedly sent the girl explicit messages through the social media app Snapchat, and asked the girl to send him nude photos. The school notified parents and students of the incident shortly after it occurred.

Prosecutors allege that Card had been engaging in inappropriate behavior with the now-15-year-old girl since February 2015.

An investigation is ongoing.

Card is due back in court fort a probable cause conference on April 25 and a preliminary exam on May 2.
