The Snack Attack: Hostess Introduces Brownies Topped With Milky Way And M&Ms Candy [TASTE TEST]

Can't decide between a brownie and a candy bar? Well now you don't have to.

Hostess recently introduced two new snacks that I immediately had to run out and buy: Brownies with Milky Way and Brownies with M&Ms.

When it comes to snack cakes, I'm ride-or-die for Little Debbie (which, by the way, just debuted a new brownie of its own). It's hard to top the chewy, fudginess of a Little Debbie Brownie. And while these brownies try to give LD a run for her money, they fall short. The Hostess brownie is a little more cakey and kind of dry, but the flavor is still packed with chocolatey goodness.

While the M&Ms brownie looks pretty much as pictured on the box, the Milky Way brownie looks NOTHING like what Hostess is trying to tempt you with. Instead of candy bar pieces, it's like the brownie has candy bar shavings. And all the nougat stuck to the inside of the wrapper instead of the brownie. But looks aside, these are both very tasty brownies that are worth a try. I just wish they were bigger!

Hostess is on to something here with their candy bar-topped brownies, but I think they need a little more work to pull it off successfully.

This version features a brownie base covered with chewy caramel and what I'll call Milky Way crumbs.

You couldn't hold me back from opening this box! Sadly though, I was disappointed after opening the first brownie to find a chocolatey, gooey mess stuck to the wrapper instead of to the brownie.

If there were actually chunks of candy bar on this brownie, it would have been phenomenal. But the lack of candy topping was a big disappointment. The caramel frosting was soft and added a nice chewiness to the brownie, but it didn't have much of a caramel taste. Come to think of it, this brownie doesn't really taste anything like a Milky Way.

I feel like if you put some M&Ms on something, it instantly becomes 100 times better. This snack features a brownie base with M&Ms baked into the brownie itself, and a thin layer of chocolate frosting topped with mini M&M's.

I was hoping for a bunch of hidden surprises but only noticed two or three M&Ms embedded in the brownie, which was dry and flaky. Thank goodness for that scant amount of frosting to add some chewiness to this thing.

Without the M&Ms, this would be a lackluster brownie. But the M&Ms add a nice, satisfying crunch.

The Snack Attack is a new daily feature on CBSDetroit.com that centers around all things food. Know of a new snack we should attack? Send an email and we'll be sure to add it to the list.
