'Go Forward Detroit': 58th Annual Fireworks Show Billed As Salute To City's Progress

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - This year's annual fireworks display over the Detroit River is billed as a salute to progress made toward Detroit's revival and optimism for the future.

The event's producers The Parade Co. announced Thursday that The Ford Fireworks on Monday, June 27, will be themed "Go Forward Detroit."

The event typically draws hundreds of thousands of spectators to the city.

"The Ford Fireworks grows bigger and more dynamic each year thanks to the support of Ford Motor Company and our many generous partners," said Tony Michaels, president & CEO of The Parade Company. "Now in our 58th year, this event has brought together the city and provided much joy and fond memories over the years.  We are thrilled to continue that tradition of putting on a breathtaking show for viewers."

The show by Zambelli Fireworks will include more than 10,000 pyrotechnic effects visible for miles along the river between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario.  It's the 58th year for the event. Dearborn-based Ford Motor Co. has been the title sponsor since 2013.

New this year, Ford will offer free admission to Belle Isle — a popular spots for watching the fireworks —for the first 1,000 vehicles, by providing a free DNR Recreation Passports. This pass may be used at all participating Michigan State Parks for the remainder of 2016.

Back again is the Parade Company's largest and most popular fundraisers of the year, The Ford Fireworks Rooftop Party, which  offers the best seats in the city to view the fireworks, along with live music, food by Andiamo, games, giveaways and more.
