Elderly Man Dies In Pontiac ‘Hoarder House’ Fire

PONTIAC (WWJ) – Investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire that claimed the life of an elderly man Wednesday morning.

A Waterford fire crew arrived at a home on Huron Street near Johnson at around 7:30 a.m. to battle the blaze, finding 69-year-old Gladwin Evans inside what firefighters are calling a “hoarder house.”

West Bloomfield and Bloomfield Township firefighters assisted as crews had a hard time putting out the flames due to a large amount of stuff packed inside the home.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Oakland County Sheriff’s officials were at the scene later in the morning with an investigation underway.

Authorities believe that Evans may have died before the fire began.
