Family Of Murdered 13-Year-Old, Snatched From Market: 'He's Not That Kid, You Know?'

DETROIT (WWJ) It's the worst possible outcome.

A body found in a Detroit field this morning has been positively identified as Deontae Mitchell, a 13-year-old boy who had been missing since Tuesday night. His body was discovered Thursday on the city's west side in a field off Harper and Baldwin, in the area of Van Dyke and I-94.

Stepdad Earnest McFadden was among those who was at the Wayne County Medical Examiners office to identify the boy's body.

"How do you cope with something like this?" asked WWJ's Sandra McNeill.

"You don't," McFadden said. "You don't cope with something like this, it's a tragedy."

Mitchell leaves behind two brothers and a sister. He was the baby of the family.

"He was a good kid, he didn't deserve this, not at all. Like a great kid. The greatest kid in the world ... very playful, very thoughtful, big heart, huge heart. He's not the kid who gets up wondering what he can get up to today. He's not that kid, you know?"

Gregory Walker, the main suspect accused of abducting Mitchell outside of a Detroit neighborhood market Tuesday night, was taken into custody without incident in Toledo, Ohio. Walker was arrested along with a 43-year-old woman, but police declined to discuss other details about their apprehension.

Detroit police are searching for two additional suspects in connection with the abduction and possible death of a 13-year-old boy who was the subject of an Amber Alert.
