INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP (WWJ) -- Police in Oakland County are still searching for man who went missing in April.

Bertram Weston, a 48-year-old resident of Independence Township, left his home saying he was going to his home state of New York on April 27. He was expected to arrive at his family's home in Staten Island the following day.

Weston's family indicated he never arrived to his destination. His wife contacted the Oakland County Sheriff's Office on May 9 to report that he had accepted a new job in the New York City area and had rented a vehicle to drive there.

The vehicle was to have been returned to the rental company at JFK Airport the day after he left (April 28). The vehicle had been reported as stolen by the rental company to the Waterford Township Police Department on May 13. The vehicle has since been recovered in the City of Pontiac, but Weston remains unaccounted for.

Weston's cellular phone has had no outgoing calls since his departure. However, cell tower hits indicated he may still be in the Pontiac area.

Weston is described as a black male, approximately 6-foot-2 and 170 pounds. Weston is hard-of-hearing and wears hearing aids. His speech is affected by his hearing impairment.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Oakland County Sheriff's Office at 888-TURN-1-IN or the Sheriff's Office Independence Substation at 248-620-4968.
