Investigation Continues As Police Release Name Of Robbery Suspect Fatally Shot

GRAND RAPIDS (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say an investigation is ongoing after a man was fatally shot when he pointed a handgun at an officer following a holdup at a western Michigan credit union,

Grand Rapids police said in a statement Tuesday that 38-year-old Frank Anthony Kelley of Kent County died in Monday morning's shooting at around 10 a.m. Monday in the 4700 block of Holyoke SE.

Police chased a car through three communities until calling off the pursuit when the driver reportedly became more reckless on the road. Two Kentwood police officers later found the stopped car. Cash was on the ground and inside the vehicle.

Police say the driver saw the officers and started running before he was shot in a backyard in Grand Rapids. A gun was recovered at the scene.

The unnamed Kentwood police officers involved are on administrative leave.

The robbery took place in the nearby community of Wyoming.
