Bicyclist Hit By Semi Truck In Lincoln Park Dies

LINCOLN PARK (WWJ) - A Downriver woman who was hit by a semi truck while riding her bike last week has died.

Lincoln Park Deputy Police Chief Joe Lavis told The News-Herald the 47-year-old Ecorse woman died Saturday from injuries sustained in the June 16 crash.

Her name has not been released.

On the day of the incident, police told WWJ Newsradio 950 that a woman was "riding recklessly" on River Dr., near Southfield Rd. and the Lincoln Park Department of Public Services, and had fallen off a couple of times before being hit by the truck.

The woman was eastbound in the road along the sidewalk and was struck as the truck, traveling westbound, passed her in the right lane.

Police said at that time that alcohol may have played a role in the incident, but that speed was not a suspected factor.

The truck driver stopped at the scene. He is not facing any charges.

The woman was taken to Beaumont Hospital-Dearborn in critical condition. She underwent surgery, the newspaper reports,  but did not recover.

An investigation is ongoing.
