20-Year-Old Man Accused In String Of Oakland County Car Break-Ins

WEST BLOOMFIELD (WWJ) - A young man is jailed, suspected in a series of car break-ins across three Oakland County communities.

West Bloomfield Deputy Police Chief Curt Lawson says the department received four phone calls, back on June 2, about unlocked vehicles broken into in the area of Leroy Lane and Mandale Lane. Victims reported missing personal property as well as damage from a fire extinguisher which had been dispensed in some of the cars.

Investigators later found that the burglar had used several credit cards stolen from those vehicles at area Meijer and Walmart stores.

Following an investigation, Lawson says a West Bloomfield patrol officers spotted what we believed to be the suspect vehicle in the neighborhood; and, the following day, a search warrant was served at a home in the 1500-block of Westcombe Lane.

Much of the stolen property was recovered, as well as evidence from other vehicle break-ins, according to police, and a man — described only as a 20-year-old white male, was arrested.

He's being held at the Oakland County Jail facing three counts of financial transaction device, a felony, and two counts of larceny from a vehicle, a misdemeanor.

Police said the same young man is suspected of breaking into vehicles in Orchard Lake and Bloomfield Township.

His name and photo have not been released pending a formal arraignment.
