Man Charged With Shooting Girlfriend After Drunken Party In Bloomfield Twp

BLOOMFIELD TWP (CBS Detroit) Jaisen Clanagan, 43, has been charged with shooting his 38-year-old girlfriend after a drunken party in the 1600 block of Winthrop Road in Bloomfield Township.

The crime was discovered at about 9 a.m. June 29 when Bloomfield Township Officers were called to the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital emergency room in reference to a woman with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Police said the shooting happened after the pair started arguing following a party the night before. During the altercation, Clanagan retrieved a .38 caliber revolver from the basement of the home.

"As Clanagan walked up the stairs from the basement, the revolver discharged one time," police said in a press release, adding, "The victim, who was at the top of the stairs, was struck in the chest."

Clanagan, a family member, and a friend at the house immediately provided aid to the victim. The friend drove the victim to St Joseph Mercy hospital. Clanagan was arrested by the Bloomfield Township Police Department several hours after the incident and is cooperating with the investigation.

This information was presented to the Oakland County Prosecutors office who issued a 9 count warrant for the following charges:

  • Felony- Firearms-discharge in a building causing injury.
  • Felony-Assault with intent to do great bodily harm.
  • Felony-Assault with a dangerous weapon
  • Firearms-Careless discharge causing injury or death.
  • Misdemeanor- Domestic violence
  • 4 counts of Possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Clanagan was arraigned by Magistrate Linden at the 48th district court and is being held on a $250,000 bond.  His next court date is July 14th at 8:45 am in front Judge D'Agostini.
