Multiple Brands Of Hoverboard Scooters Recalled Due To Fire Hazard

DETROIT (WWJ) - The Consumer Product Safety Commission has ordered a recall of hundreds of thousands of self-balancing scooters and hoverboards amid fire concerns.

There have been at least 99 incidents reports of the battery packs in self-balancing scooters/hoverboards overheating, sparking, smoking, catching fire and/or exploding including reports of burn injuries and property damage, according to the CPSC.

CPSC Chairman Elliot Kaye says hoverboard fires can be dangerous, citing 7,200 injuries reported in hospital emergency rooms since last August. He said hoverboard-related fires in more than 20 states have resulted in two million dollars in property damage.
