Police: Dad, Friend Robbed Credit Union With 1-Year-Old Child

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - Two men who were arrested after allegedly robbing a Royal Oak credit union with a 1-year-old child in their care could end up spending the rest of their lives behind bars.

Delavonta Larry, 20, and Raymon Mattison, 21, both of Detroit, were charged Saturday with one count of conspiracy to commit bank robbery and one count bank robbery. Larry was given a $100,000 bond, 10 percent cash/surety. Mattison was given a $250,000 bond, no 10 percent.

Police say Larry has no criminal record, but Mattison is currently on probation for receiving and concealing stolen property between $200 and $1000. Both are due back in court on July 25.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred just before noon on Thursday, July 14 at the Community Choice Credit Union on Crooks Road, south of 12 Mile Road.

According to police, Mattinson entered the bank and passed a note to the teller demanding money. After obtaining an unknown amount of cash, police say Mattinson ran to a vehicle driven by Larry and they fled the area.

A witness observed the suspect run from the bank to the vehicle, called 911, and provided police with the direction of travel and vehicle information. Officers quickly located the vehicle on 12 Mile at Altadena stopped in the roadway. As officers were pulling up, Mattinson had already exited the vehicle and ran northbound through the neighborhood into Red Run Golf Course. Police say Larry remained with the vehicle and was arrested without incident. His 1-year-old child was located in the backseat and taken into protective custody.

Officers quickly set up a perimeter and observed Mattinson near a golf course service entrance. As officers approached, Mattinson ran into a backyard where he was taken into custody.
