Person Of Interest In Custody In Rape Of 18-Year-Old Girl In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police have a "person of interest" in custody but say they're continuing to investigate the case of 18-year-old woman who was sexually assaulted in Detroit.

According to investigators, a  "good Samaritan" and the alleged rapist had helped break up a fight between the teen and her boyfriend at the corner of Hubbell and Plymouth on Sunday, July 10.

The Good Samaritan told the young woman that the suspect was "a good man" who went to her church and that he would drive her home. But instead, police say, the man took the young woman to a vacant house in the 10600-block of Foley Street where he allegedly attacked her.

Police said the suspect appeared to be in his late 30s or early 40s. He was around 6 feet and 180 lbs. with a medium build, a medium brown complexion, dark brown eyes and dark brown lips. He was described as clean-shaven with a bald head and a missing front tooth.

At the time of the crime the suspect was wearing either a white or tan light-colored short-sleeved shirt with a collar, blue jeans and tan and red gym shoes and driving a four-door 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix.

Police told WWJ Newsradio 950 Wednesday afternoon that they had a man in custody on unrelated charges who is considered a person of interest in this case, but they were still looking for tips as an investigation continues.
