Wheelchair-Bound Man Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver While Crossing Street

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a 45-year-old wheelchair-bound man and drove off.

The incident happened around 9:20 p.m. Friday on McNichols Road near Santa Barbara, just west of Livernois Avenue on the city's west side.

Police say the victim was attempting to cross McNichols Road when he was struck by a westbound-traveling vehicle. The driver made no attempt to stop following the collision and fled the scene, according to police.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

Police are now searching for the suspect -- described as an older female -- and the vehicle involved in the crash, but have received conflicting reports about the vehicle's description. Investigators are either looking for a white SUV or a black four-door vehicle.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 313-267-4600.
