Murder Investigation Underway After Woman Found Dead In Warren Apartment

WARREN (WWJ) - Police are searching for a suspect after a 62-year-old woman was murdered in her Warren apartment.

Family members and friends gathered at the scene at Williamsburg East, near Schoennher and 13 Mile Road, late Wednesday morning — trying to come to terms with what happened.

"I've never seen nothing like that," said Mila Leggett, the victim's next door neighbor."Seen somebody bludgeoned to death? No. That's traumatizing."

Family members said Donna Lawrence was found dead on the kitchen floor with an apparent head wound. They said that the apartment appeared to have been ransacked, or that there was some sort of a struggle.

Leggett told WWJ's Sandra McNeil she may have seen her friend's killer earlier in the morning.

"I seen a guy come up — scraggly, wet hair. And I told my husband, I said I don't think that would be the type of person who'd go to Donna's house, because he looked like a crackhead," she said. "He kept knocking on her windows. She didn't come to this one, she didn't come to that one, and finally she unlocks the door and he came and went in through the hallway door."

Leggett described the man she saw as white, with curly hair. He was about 5 feet, 9 inches tall, wearing a red shirt and khaki pants.

Police said the suspect drove off in the victim's vehicle: a 2002 blue Daewoo Nubira station wagon, license plate DAC 5379.

A homicide investigation is underway. Anyone with information is asked to call Warren police.
