Man Allegedly Pistol-Whipped, Shot By Mugger Along Detroit-Southfield Border

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police are investigating after a man was shot in the back after being robbed along the Detroit-Southfield border.

The incident happened around 5:10 a.m. Thursday on 8 Mile Road near Berg, just east of Telegraph Road.

Police say a man in his 50s was walking on the north side of 8 Mile, in Southfield, when he was approached by a male with a handgun. The victim told police the suspect demanded his money, pistol-whipped him and forced him to lay on the ground. The suspect then shot the victim one time in the back, according to police.

The victim was able to stumble to a nearby gas station for assistance, on the south side of 8 Mile in Detroit, and a clerk called 911 for an ambulance.

The suspect fled the scene in a red or burgundy pickup truck, westbound on 8 Mile Road. He's described as a black male in his early 40s, about 6-feet tall, with a medium build and a short beard. He was wearing a grey and black jumpsuit with a hoodie, black shoes and black gloves.

The victim suffered a non-life threatening wound and is expected to recover.

No arrests have been made.
