Trump's Plea To Black Voters: 'What Do You Have To Lose?'

DIMONDALE, Mich. (WWJ) -- Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump addressed his supporters just outside Lansing on Friday.

The billionaire visited Michigan for the second time in two weeks in a rally mostly focused on job creation and the state's auto production.

But, in the rousing speech held at the Summit Sports and Ice Complex in Dimondale, Trump took the opportunity to speak directly to a demographic he polls poorly with -- African-Americans.

"African-American communities have suffered under Democratic control," Trump said. "To those I say the following: what do you have to lose by trying something new, like Trump? What do you have to lose?

"You're living in poverty, your schools are no good, you have no jobs, 58 percent of your youth is unemployed -- what the hell do you have to lose?" Trump asked again.

Despite claims made that he will have support from "over 95 percent of African-American voters" after four years, Trump's popularity among the group is dismal. In an analysis by FiveThirtyEight, it was found that only one to two percent of likely African-American voters support Trump.

"My administration will go to work for you as no one has ever done before -- we will work, we will bring back jobs, we will work," Trump said.

Trump also took aim at Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton again, saying if he wins it will be a win for the voters, not for the global special interests funding her campaign.
