Dearborn Cop Faces Sex Charge For Alleged Traffic Stop Touching

DEARBORN (WWJ) - A Dearborn police officer is facing charges, accused of improperly touching a woman during a traffic stop in May.

Officer Justin Smith was arraigned in 19th District Court Thursday on one count of criminal sexual conduct, second degree, and common law offenses (misconduct) and released on a $10,000 personal bond.

Dearborn police say the charge stem from allegations by a female acquaintance of Smith, but didn't provide any details about incident.

He's been suspended without pay while awaiting further court proceedings.

"The Dearborn Police Department is committed to remaining completely transparent in matters of this nature and we will continue to do that during the course of this investigation. An ongoing internal investigation is underway and we will continue to monitor the criminal case in court," Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said, in a statement Tuesday.

Smith is awaiting a probable cause conference set for Friday, Sept. 2, and a preliminary exam set for Friday, Sept. 9.

Smith's accuser has not been publicly named.
