WAYNE (WWJ) – Authorities say two people were killed when their vehicle was struck by an Amtrak train in Wayne.

The accident happened around 10:40 p.m. Wednesday on Venoy Road just south of Michigan Avenue.

According to police, a truck was attempting to go around the crossing gates, which were down, when it was struck by a passenger train.

One of the victims was identified as 58-year-old Shirley Kendricks, of Romulus. The other victim, a man, has not been named.

The Amtrak train, which was heading to Pontiac from Chicago, was stopped at the scene for hours. No one on board was injured.

Could this have been a suicide pact, if the rails are down why would one want to try to go across the tracks especially at night. God bless their families and rest their souls. I feel so un-nerved since I have to go across that exact spot every 3-6 mos to see my Doctor.
