Girl, 13, Hit And Killed By Truck While Crossing Street In Warren

WARREN (WWJ) -- A 13-year-old girl is dead after being hit by a truck in Warren on Friday night.

Alicia Gardner was struck by a vehicle in the area of 8 Mile Rd. and Van Dyke Ave. as she crossed the street. The driver stayed on the scene and told arriving police officers that he did not see the girl as she crossed Van Dyke.

Gardner was not using a crosswalk at the time of the incident and the driver of the truck was not at fault, Warren mayor Jim Fouts told WDIV.

Gardner was taken to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead early Saturday morning.

A GoFundMe campaign has been started to help Gardner's family pay for a funeral.
