Mush! Public Encouraged To See Sled Dogs In UP

GWINN, Mich. (AP) - A winter pastime in Michigan's Upper Peninsula is making a fall debut.

Sled dogs will race this weekend without snow at the Marquette County fairgrounds in Gwinn. Tim Trowbridge of the U.P. Sled Dog Association says the goal is to build interest months before the annual winter races.

Trowbridge tells The Mining Journal it's a way for the public to meet dogs and drivers "without the burden of winter coats or mittens." He says there will be beginners and veteran mushers.

Admission is free Saturday and Sunday. Camping will also be available for a fee.
