Break-In Reported At Detroit's Capuchin Soup Kitchen

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are investigating a break-in at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen on the city's east side.

The incident happened just after 12 a.m. Tuesday at the soup kitchen's location off Conner Street and Mack Avenue, just south of I-94.

The crook made off with computers, printers and other office equipment after getting into the building through a broken window.

Jerry Smith, who runs the kitchen with his brother, said the robbery definitely disrupts their daily activities but it's not stopping them.

"There are people here waiting for breakfast this morning and, you know, we're trying to deal with the electric company and get a board up and all that," Smith told WWJ's Charlie Langton. "I mean, it's just a lot of energy and commotion that could be spent in good ways but we have to deal with this."

The Capuchin Soup Kitchen has been around since 1929, providing roughly 2,000 meals a day to needy Detroiters.
