Boy Accidentally Shoots Sister At Michigan Hunting Camp

HUBBARD LAKE, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say an 11-year-old boy accidentally shot his 13-year-old sister in the face when he tripped while carrying a shotgun in Michigan's northeastern Lower Peninsula.

They children were at their family's hunting camp near Hubbard Lake in Alcona County on Tuesday when the boy tripped over a stone, according to reports. Authorities say the shotgun discharged and the girl was wounded in the nose, cheek and eye; her injuries are not life-threatening.

The girl was taken to a hospital in Alpena before being transferred to an Ann Arbor hospital for treatment.

The shooting happened as deer hunters headed into the woods Tuesday for the start of Michigan's firearm deer hunting season, which runs through Nov. 30.
